Privacy Policy

We collect as little as possible, we tell you exactly what we do with it, and we never sell it. This page explains that in full.

The short version. We collect your email (and, if you tell us, your name and suburb) so we can let you know when Cycling Market launches and when relevant stock appears near you. We do not sell your details, we do not pass them to bike shops, and you can ask us to delete them at any time by emailing sales@cyclingmarket.com.au.

Who we are

Cycling Market ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at cyclingmarket.com.au. We are an Australian business preparing to launch a marketplace for verified independent bike shops. This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

This policy applies to the website only. At the time of writing we are pre-launch: the marketplace is not yet open, and no bike listings or transactions exist on the site.

What we collect

We only collect information you choose to give us through a form on this site.

If you join the rider waitlist

Your email address (required)
Your first and last name, if you use the full signup form
Your suburb or town, so we can tell you about shops near you
The type of riding you're interested in, and optionally the name of your favourite local bike shop

If you apply as a bike shop

Your business email address, and any business details you include in your application

Collected automatically

Our hosting provider records standard server logs, which may include your IP address, browser type and the pages you visited. This is used for security and to understand general traffic patterns. We do not currently run advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies on this site.

Why we collect it, and what we do with it

We use your information only for the purpose you gave it to us:

To email you when the marketplace launches
To tell you about stock from verified shops in your area, if you asked for that
To assess and respond to a bike shop's application to join
To respond to you if you contact us directly

We will not use your details for unrelated marketing, and we will not add you to any list you did not ask to be on.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever. We do not pass rider details on to bike shops. If you enquire about a specific bike once the marketplace launches, your enquiry will go to that shop because that is the point of the enquiry — but we will not hand your details to shops you have not contacted.

We use a small number of service providers to run the site, and your information may be stored on their systems:

Netlify — website hosting and form submissions
Google — Search Console (site performance) and web fonts
Our email provider — to send you the messages you signed up for

Some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. By submitting a form you consent to that overseas storage. We choose established providers with their own privacy and security commitments.

We may also disclose information where we are required to by law.

How we keep it safe

The site is served over HTTPS and form submissions are transmitted securely. Access to submitted information is limited to the people running Cycling Market. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist details until you ask us to remove them, or until we decide the waitlist has served its purpose and delete it. Shop applications are kept for as long as we have a business relationship with that shop, or until the application is declined and no longer needed.

Accessing, correcting or deleting your information

You can ask us at any time to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it entirely. Email sales@cyclingmarket.com.au and we will action it. There is no charge, and we will respond within a reasonable period — normally within 30 days.

Every email we send will also include an unsubscribe link. Using it removes you from the list immediately.

Cookies

This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser may store standard technical data required to load the page, and Google Fonts are loaded from Google's servers when you visit.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 15. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first at sales@cyclingmarket.com.au so we can try to put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change — in particular when the marketplace launches and enquiries between riders and shops begin. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will email you about it.
